The mission of the Energy & Climate committee is to highlight the connection between conventional, centralized energy production and its major role in perpetuating and amplifying global climate change. The committee will begin and maintain two campaigns pressuring UA administration to commit to fully divesting all university holdings and endowments from fossil fuel industries by 2020 and transitioning to campus-wide net neutral carbon emissions by 2020 or sooner. These campaigns will incorporate as many sects of the university as possible, spanning students and faculty, clubs, alumni, and the wider Tucson community.
The committee meets at least once a week, where topics including climate justice, green economics, eco-feminism, Arizona energy production, and successful non-violent movements are discussed. These perspectives are integrated into the two campaigns to build strong, sensible and comprehensive arguments for how and why the UA should address global climate change as a leading academic institution.
The SfS Energy & Climate committee is also a member of Student Energy Groups.
